Paradise Tower becomes the newest addition
to Hard Rock
Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The highly anticipated project
($750 Million expansion), completed almost two months
ahead of schedule.
Henzel rugs was selected for the pool suites, aptly named
because they overlook and some offer direct access to
Hard Rock Hotel & Casinos world famous Beach Club pool.
Predictably the most coveted real estate in the tower,
the pool suites boast features such as two-level duplexes,
doors that open to direct access to your own cabana or to
the pool deck, or a spacious glass balcony that places you
hovering over the best pool scene in town. Some of the
selected designs is based on Calle Henzel's oil paintings
and made to custom designed hand tufted rugs. One of
the selected artworks is Memento from Second Session
series, inspired by the pre-twentieth-century use of
collage-like application techniques.
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is a premier destination
entertainment resort owned and operated by Morgans
Hotel Group and equity partner DLJ Merchant Banking
Partners. Hard Rock offers a unique entertainment and
gaming experience with the services and amenities
associated with a boutique luxury resort hotel. Always
a popular music destination, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
hosts such live acts as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie,
Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg and The Killers.
In the past Calle Henzel has worked with a variety of media
including rugs, furniture and textiles. Over the last years
painting has increasingly become an important form in his
work. Even though hand tufted rugs still is his main art
making instrument, painting has always been an parallel
tool that allowes him to put his formal ideas in place.
He uses painting for its most genuine purpose: spontaneous
and unarbitrated conveyance of his experience of the world
around him. Henzel's overlapped; fragmented and bold
collage paintings capture a youth culture zeitgeist.
Influenced by the opulent grandeur of 80s art his collage-
based images presenting fragile and fluctuating notions
of identity, ciphers, corrupted beauty, symbols and pulp
novels.
